About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview

The Training Specialist is part of the Transmission & Distribution training team that will support all Distribution Construction & Maintenance (DC&M) & Transmission work locations. The Training Specialist will provide support and guidance to local management of the Apprentice Lineman on the job training program, policies and corrective actions. The successful candidate will develop and maintain a systematic approach to training for all training content and programs while delivering a variety of Training sessions at Chino. The training specialist will be responsible for administering and facilitating various assessments.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Provides support to Lineman Apprentice Programs by observing apprentice performance, making field visits, assisting with action plan development, and monitoring On the Job Training (OJT).

  • Researches, designs and develops training and associated coursework by partnering with T&D Training Schools, internal stakeholders and external sources.

  • Delivers and facilitates training in a classroom environment as well as non-classroom environments (e.g. field training).

  • Develops training objectives and curriculum to meet client needs as well as schedules resources and facilities for training.

  • Participates and stays current on the development of new technologies, equipment, company initiatives and corrective actions in order to provide up to date coaching and feedback.

  • Develops training plans and curriculum for introducing technologies and work practices.

  • Coordinate training efforts with Field Management for annual training projects including but not limited to Annual Compliance training and Just in Time Training.

  • Develops and administers training tests.

  • Attends regional communication and safety meetings throughout the organization and partners with front line employees and management to identify training gaps and resolve all training issues.

  • Provides expertise on changes and improvements to work processes and procedures.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Maintains a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Five or more years of line work experience.

  • A valid driver’s license.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience consulting with clients to design training programs, developing training curriculum, and/or managing training deployment activities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong understanding and ability to articulate Transmission & Distribution Apprentice Lineman Training Requirements.

  • Bachelor Degree.

  • Experience in designing, developing or delivering technical or nontechnical training courses for various skill levels and classifications.

  • Knowledge of the ADDIE model.

  • Demonstrated experience with the instructional design process.

  • Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional workgroups.

  • Experience determining pass/fail criteria and corrective/coaching paths.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and be customer focused to understand and appropriately respond to clients’ business needs.

  • Engage in continuous learning.


  • Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.

  • The successful candidate for this position can work remote and will need to be able to commute throughout the SCE service territory.

  • Position may require being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
