Position Overview:

The Principal Manager of Public Safety will establish vision and develop strategy while managing personnel that support programs and projects related to Public Safety across the company. You will develop and manage oversight of Public Safety short term and long term strategy and lead Public Safety communications. The selected candidate will lead the development of Public Safety governance initiatives. Additionally, the Principal Manager will lead Public Safety presentations to executive safety councils, and employee safety congresses. You will be accountable for the safety of members of the public in regards to interaction with Edison facilities and assets.

Responsibilities will include overall company Public Safety program leadership, including; Public Safety; Regulatory Management; Public Safety Performance Indictors; Public Safety Claims Liaison; Public Safety Outreach. You will also be responsible for developing Public Safety materials and facilitation of Public Safety strategy and performance discussions with the Executive Safety Council (CEO, President, and Officers), Senior Safety Council (Officers and Directors) and. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to develop Public Safety presentation materials for SCE Board of Directors, California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), Edison Electric Institute (EEI), and other industry organization

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Strategically lead SCE’s Public Safety program by developing a vision, mission, and plan that will work toward the elimination of serious injuries and fatalities to members of the public.

  • Influence and coordinate Public Safety efforts, including RAMP and GRC development, capital projects – wire/pole & hydroelectric investments, across several organizational units including: Transmission & Distribution, Generation, and Operational Services.

  • Lead the SCE Public Safety outreach efforts, including the performance of the analysis to determine focus areas, development of the technical content, and assessment of impact on Public Safety.

  • Develop new/Improve existing comprehensive set of performance indicators and goals that facilitate driving improvements in Public Safety performance resulting in the reduction of risk followed by the reduction and elimination of Public Safety serious injuries and fatalities

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Seven years leading/managing/supervising Public Safety or safety related initiatives or seven years of utility related project management experience or seven years of experience as a combination of both of the above

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Certifications in Lean, Six-Sigma and/or PMP

  • Ten years of leadership experience

  • Knowledge of the electrical power system, hydroelectric dams, other electric utility public safety risks

  • Cultural leadership knowledge

  • SCE Safety standards knowledge

  • Cause Evaluation experience

  • Experience with developing teamwork and collaboration

  • Position will require approximately 10% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory
