Program Overview:

This position is part of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) University and Campus Relations Internship Program. The Summer Internship program is a 10-12 week paid opportunity to gain hands-on experience with meaningful work, while developing your skills, and building your network. The internship has an estimated start date of May/June 2019 and an estimated end date of August/September 2019. Summer interns may have the potential to carry on as year-round interns, working part-time throughout the school year. Decisions to work as a year-round intern will be based upon summer performance, business need, and the interest of the intern.

Position Overview:

This position resides within the Operational Finance group within the larger Finance organization at SCE. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing research and analyses to support the effective utilization and treatment of the company’s financial assets. As a member of the Operational Finance team, the successful candidate will work alongside our finance managers in analyzing our business and building financial models to help make fact-based, and/or informed decisions.

Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting financial analysis that supports decision making and planning, including business case development and cost/benefit studies

  • Building cash flow and other financial models that support operational decisions

  • Performing ad-hoc analysis that addresses specific business challenges our internal clients are facing and provide actionable recommendations

  • Supporting the development of presentations for management and other department personnel

  • Calculating unit costs, labor costs, overhead allocation, and other costs needed to develop budgets, compare actual to budgeted costs to support variance analysis and forecasting with direction and supervision

  • Performing cost trend analysis using historical and external data to support operational decision-making and continuous cost improvement with direction and supervision

  • Building detailed analysis and reports utilizing MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access

  • Maintaining a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices; and performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must currently be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Finance, Business, Economics or a related field at an accredited institution with a graduation date of December 2019 or later

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred GPA of 2.8 or higher

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Currently a Junior or Senior in current academic status

  • Demonstrated experience with financial or quantitative analysis

  • Experience utilizing and developing financial models

  • Experience in forecasting and performing cost benefit/trend analysis

  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with peers, clients, management, and other organizations

  • Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices
