This position is part of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) University and Campus Relations Internship Program. The Summer Internship program is a 10-12 week paid opportunity to gain hands-on experience with meaningful work, while developing your skills, and building your network. The internship has an estimated start date of May/June 2019 and an estimated end date of August/September 2019.
SCE offers these programs with the belief that learning and development are important parts of building future leaders. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in intern mixers, executive speaker series, site tours, community volunteer events, intern project expo, and cross-company networking.

About Safety, Security & Business Resiliency:

The Safety, Security, and Business Resiliency division is dedicated to creating and sustaining a culture that promotes safe behaviors, provides for and protects the security of people and property, and is well prepared to respond to and recover from incidents that compromise our ability to operate. The Business Resiliency team work with all components of the company to ensure they are prepared to manage disruptions to normal operations.
We are looking for an intern who has a passion for Meteorology and/or Fire Science. Meteorology is increasing assisting the company and other utilities in understanding and preparing for weather condition and impacts it has on operations. Fire Science specialty in Meteorology is a specialized skill in high demand, especially following the devastating fires California has been seeing in the last couple of years.
Typical responsibilities will include:
Work with Meteorology team to develop and define Fire Potential Index for company
Monitor and put together forecasts and reports for incoming weather condition, key focus on identifying and writing alerts for fire weather forecasts
Provide recommendation on how to leverage fire science and/or modeling to enhance company’s prediction and monitoring capabilities
Learn about application of fire science and meteorology to utility business lines
Must currently be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Meteorology, Fire Behavior/Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences or a related field at an accredited institution with a graduation date of December 2019 or later.
Cumulative 2.8 GPA or higher preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to accurately analyze information, processes, systems, and technologies.
Attention to detail and the ability to build interpersonal relationships with clients, peers and management.
Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Relocation will not be provided for this position.
