This is a Senior Accountant position in the Controller’s Department, within Southern California Edison’s (SCE’s) Finance Organizational Unit, reporting to the Senior Manager of Power Procurement Accounting. The successful candidate will specialize in accounting, financial reporting and regulatory recovery of SCE’s $5 billion annual energy procurement costs. You will regularly collaborate with SCE’s Energy Procurement & Management, Risk Management and Law departments to assess the appropriate accounting of energy procurement transactions. The Senior Accountant will work across several software systems, including commodity management platforms and SAP, and will work to recommend and implement process improvements to refine business processes and drive efficiencies across organizations.
Assess energy procurement contract originations and amendments under US GAAP to determine if new contracts and contract amendments should be classified as leases, derivatives or executory contracts, and if they constitute variable interests.
Perform monthly accounting close impacting multiple California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regulatory balancing accounts and related cost recovery mechanisms utilizing data derived from various Energy Procurement Management commodity management systems and databases.
Partner with IT and business unit stakeholders to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the interface between a Commodities Management Platform and SAP.
Perform regular maintenance of the account mapping of various systems and interfaces, such as configuring new energy procurement transactions and troubleshooting posting errors, as well as proposing and/or supporting any future improvement.
Prepare quarterly and annual SEC, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and CPUC reports related to energy procurement transactions.
Support recorded cost information for annual and tri-annual CPUC regulatory proceedings.
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting or related field.
Five or more years of experience in Accounting or related field.
Demonstrated ability to research, interpret and document Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Experience performing account reconciliations and variance analysis.
Proficiency with SAP or similar enterprise software.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with large amounts of data.
Certified Public Accountant (active or inactive).
Experience in a public accounting firm and/or regulated utility.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate accounting issues and business processes to peers, clients, management and other organizations.
Ability to work in a team setting to analyze information and develop solutions to a variety of accounting and accounting systems issues.
Strong ethics, leadership and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Experience with robotics and business process automation.
Ability to join multiple tables via Standard Query Language (SQL).
The primary work location for this position is Rosemead, California.
