About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview

Repairs, tests and calibrates all types and classes of Single Phase and non-IDR (interval data recording) Polyphase Meters in the Meter Acceptance Shop. Checks internal/external connections and tests for continuity and grounds.

Typical Responsibilities :

  • Inspects/validates mechanical, electrical, electronic, and communication components.

  • Cleans reconditions, repairs or replaces defective parts.

  • Verifies register ratios and meter constants.

  • Using test instruments performs testing and evaluation of associated metering equipment and load survey devices.

  • Tests insulation of meters, associated metering equipment, such as, but not limited to test switches, phasing transformers, and load survey devices at high potential.

  • Performs meter tests using various types of tests and computes meter error.

  • Makes adjustments as needed to bring accuracy within prescribed limits.

  • Checks, verifies and updates as necessary meter nameplate data and meter programs.

  • Records test results in SCE systems.

  • Engage in continuous learning.

  • Tabulates test results and performs computations for statistical analysis of test data.


Minimum Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience troubleshooting Electronic Equipment AND/OR a formal Electronics Training Certification or Diploma through an Apprenticeship, Electronics Trade School, University, Community College or equivalent Electronics/Electrical education.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and follow written instructions and directions,

  • Ability to learn to test and repair Single Phase and Polyphase Meters, associated metering equipment and load survey devices.

  • Ability to use tools and equipment provided.

  • Experience computing percentage of error and prepare test reports.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.

  • Effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel Outlook.
